Most families with a child who is unable to go to school feel alone and confused, we have experienced this so we understand and want to help, we are able to share advice and ideas on ways to help our children and our families.

Please have a look around our site and join us, you are not alone in searching for a solution to help a child who is school refusing for whatever reason - Anxiety, Phobia, Bullying, lack of Special Needs Support or others.

We started this website as a group of parents who met on the

                                  Yahoo Group for School Refusers

(Join the group (click on the above link) and you can contact us and read through previous messages, many people have found this helpful, if only to know your child is not alone in struggling with school and other parents have found themselves in the same situation as you.)

Individuals found the group whilst searching the internet for help and advice, desperately looking for something that would provide answers and support for a child who was school refusing and for our whole family who were distressed and confused.

Most people found it hard to access help from professionals such as Doctors, Teachers or Local Authority staff (EWO's, Social Workers, etc.). There appeared to be a lack of willingness to listen to the issues we were facing or to understand our children's fears and distress.

We realised, as people joined the group and introduced themselves, the stories they told of battles with their child, the school, the health-care workers and the local education authority, were all sounding similar. Everyone was looking for the solution that was going to help their child and it was so hard to track that solution down.

We decided we could do something to help ourselves and other families - if we collated the ideas, advice and resources we had individually sourced and shared them on a website.

' I always feel children who refuse to go to school are so brave.   Some older children just say `I'm not going and there's nothing you can do about it!`  Others may be tearful, some hide in their rooms and some may curl up in a ball and not want to get ready for school.  If parents are upset then how much worse must it be for the children......'

" If your child is disappearing down a whirlpool at school, it is noble and honourable to pick him out, take him home, look after him and make sure he is educated properly"
